Project Description:

This project will provide a Range 2000 Advanced Firearms Simulator, which is a state of the art shooting simulation for police training to improve shoot/don't shoot decision making.  The Range 2000 utilizes real life scenarios which react to the actions of the trainee or police officer.  The system allows the police officer to utilize the various different tools (side handle baton, expandable baton, his/her firearm) to properly complete each situation.  The Range 2000 is laser target activated and identifes hits on the targets.  Further, lethal vs. non-lethal hits are identied and the targets are reactive to verbal commands.  The system has "live-fire" capabilities with no modification needed.  The system allows for variable light conditions as well as the use of flashlights.  All training videos can be reproduced at the police facility and permanently maintained in a video library.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

The simulator will be available for recruit and in-service police training to Region 14 officers.  The Metropolitan Police Institute is a regional training center and is therefore available to all police departments in the region, as well as various state and federal agencies in the area upon request.
