Project Description: |
The Department of Health's Child Protection Teams have provided multidisciplinary assessments of alleged child abuse victims for 20 years. In 1999, the Kayla McKean Child Protection Act was enacted to further protect children from abuse and neglect. The act significantly increased the number of services provided by the Child Protection Teams. Because of the requirements of the child protection act, medical exams increased four-fold. Along with the increased medical exams, other services such as photography, transcription, and overall administrative costs increased as well. Funding is needed to hire additional personnel to comply with the Kayla McKean Child Protection Act. |

Services Provided/Benefit to State: |
The Child Protection Teams provide expert medical services to the children of the state whom are alleged to have been abused or neglected. The network of Child Protection Temas include coverage of all 67 counties such that any child in the state is eligible for CPT services. By increasing the funding to the Child Protection Teams, the children of the state will continue to have the reliable, professional service that CPT's have provided to children. |
