Project Description:
Florida has initiated a statewide effort to deliver more community treatment services for persons with severe and persistent mental illness through Florida Assertive Community Treatment Teams. Eight teams have been awarded contracts and the Governor's budget calls for funding seven additional teams. Awarding one of the proposed teams to Manatee Glens allows for the County to be prepared for further deinstitutionalization from G.P. Wood State Hospital and local jails.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Services are provided round the clock by a clinical team of psychiatrists, nurses, counselors and case managers to those persons for whom traditional community services are not able to divert from state hospitalization or jail incarceration. Seventy-five to eighty percent of these services are provided in community settings and not a clinic. Support for housing, medication and special needs are also included in the services offered. This service would support the state's goal to reduce costs for state hospitalization of severely and persistently mentally ill persons.
