Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Alachua County seeks to expand its drug court to repeat offenders through a postadjudication drug court operated by the Florida Department of Corrections.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

Alachua County's existing drug court program has a 12% recidivism rate versus a national recidivism rate of 70%. Benefits to Alachua County are a reduced cost of supervision of offenders and the long-term benefits of a reduction in recidivism.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

60% reduction in recidivism among felony drug offenders in Alachua County, who are approximately 36% of total felony offenders.  Long term benefits include:  reduction in drug crime, reduction in property crime, stronger families through reduction in drug use.  This project will assist the Governor in meeting his goal of a 50% reduction in drug use in Florida in five years.
