Project Description:
Project HOME will assist homeless women and women with children during the year by providing them with 8,578 personal days of temporary shelter and 925 units of case management service, with each unit representing one hour of face to face or telephone contact. Other services to be provided include peer support group sessions, two meals per day, job search assistance, bus transportation, life skills, and money management training, and permanent housing assistance. Clothing, personal grooming items, bedding, access to a washer and dryer, and access to medical care, day care, after school care, and adult education also will be provided.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
According to the 8th "Annual Report on Homeless Conditions in Florida," released in March, 1998, by the State's Department of Children and Families, there are at least 55,000 homeless people in Florida on any given day, enough people to form a soup kitchen line that stretches from Orlando to Jacksonville. Of these people, 16% are females and 35% are families. In Palm Beach County, where Operation HOME, Inc is based, it is estimated that 3,090 individuals are homeless at any point and time, and of these, 1,508 or 49% are homeless families, and 1,040 are children reported to be living with their homeless parents at service sites. In this same survey, it was found that a total 393 or 88% of the homeless are females with children. Operation Hope, Inc. basic goal is to provide quality, safe, and sanitary emergency and/or transitional shelter to homeless women and women with children and to provide essential social and supportive services that will assist these individuals and becoming self sufficient independent and productive citizens.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
At full capacity, Operation Hope, Inc. assisting 7 family units consisiting of 18 family memebers and 6 individuals per day with temporary shelter for up to 90 days.
