Project Description:

This request is to fund an Historical Resources Grant-in-Aid project for the construction necessary to restore and rehabilitate the two story vernacular building known as the City Hall Annex.  Structural repairs include replacing the first floor and enhancing truss supports on the exterior building walls.  Architectural repairs include: restoration of windows, doors, and roof; asbestos removal; addition of ADA-compliant access; and rehabilitation of the exterior facade.  Interior work is focused on bringing the building up to code standards, restoring interiors, and adding ADA-compliant facilities

The City Hall Annex, originally named the Domestic Science and Manual Training School, was built in 1901 and dedicated in 1902.  It is the oldest school building in the area and is one of the oldest standing buildings in St. Petersburg.  It was built for $10,000 , and given to the City of St. Petersburg as a gift, free and clear, from E. H. Tomlinson, a local philanthropist.  The school, which has been in continual use for the last 97 years.  Recently the city's Neighborhood Partnership and Neighborhood Services offices moved into the building.
