Project Description:
Matching funds are requested for the second year of this program which utilizes a public-private partnership to target medically underserved women between the ages of 40 and 64 for breast and cervical cancer screening services. This is facilitated by a community-based coalition that is coordinated by the ACS, Florida Division, Inc. Funded in FY 1999-2000 at line 490A.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Early detection of cancer in the medically underserved community will reduce mortality. This coalition has served as a model for providing similar services in other regions.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Provide a dramatic increase in the number of underserved women receiving services; early intervention will reduce costs associated with cancer care. Short-term goal is to screen 2000 women by 9/31/00, which is the end of the CDC FY. Long-term goal: rescreen 45% of women and provide clinical breast exam, mammography, and Pap smear to 90% of eligible population.
