Project Description: |
Increase the payment to providers for the OSS program from $697 to $732. This is a statewide GR public assistance program which supplements the income of indigent elderly and disabled individuals who live in assisted living facilities or adult family care homes. This amount is given to the ALF to provide recipients with room, board, and assistance with activities for daily living such as bathing, dressing and eating. The projected number of recipients served is 11,000 |

This program serves a population of very low income elderly and mentally disabled who are able to live in an ALF or AFCH rather than the more institutional setting such as a nursing home or mental institution. In some cases, this program provides a residence to people who might otherwise be homeless. The cost to the state of an OSS recipient residing in an ALF is $2,544 a year while the cost for the same person in a nursing home is $18,456. |
