Project Description: |

This budget issue request is for a pregnancy prevention media campaign targeting teens 9 - 14 years of age and their parents. This campaign called, South Florida T.E.E.N. (Teen Education for Every Nationality) Vision, will utilize innovative television, radio, print, billboard and theatre advertising, as well as education curriculum and community involvement programs. The mission of the media campaign is to prevent unwanted adolescent pregnancies through public awareness of the emotional, financial and social costs of adolescent pregnancy; education programs promoting responsible choice; and advocacy of prevention. Several regional media partners are willing to reduce advertising costs and provide significant in-kind contributions. South Florida T.E.E.N. Vision will supplement the education, employment and creative arts components of seven comprehensive and outreach teen pregnancy prevention programs reaching 2,500 teens in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties. Teen, parent and community groups will be directly involved in the leadership and direction of the campaign. The National Council to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and the Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida will provide technical support and the benefit of their respective media and communication materials. |

Services Provided/Benefit to State: |

Through the educational, employment and creative arts components of seven privately and publicly funded comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention and outreach programs, a media campaign will be designed and implemented to increase public awarness and prevent unintended teen pregnancies in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties. This effort will reduce teen pregnancy; delay the onset of sexual activity; decrease the contracing and spreading of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS; increase academic success and employability skills and provide employment for South Florida teens. As a result, the State of Florida will save significant revenues since more than 50 percent of the states' WAGES funds are spent in these three counties for women who did not finish high school and were teen mothers. Teens, parents and community leaders will come together to design and promote the teen pregnancy prevention messages developed by the media campaign. |
