Project Description:

Funds requested are for building a new, expanded shelter facility for The Haven Domestic Violence Center.  The Shelter is currently housed in an old home with only 20 beds available for victims of domestic violence and their children.  The rooms are small with little to no storage space.  There is no accomodation for privacy or for special needs such as families with teenage boys or serious mental health issues.  The new facility would expand the bedspace to 34 and be designed with the needs of domestic violence victims in mind.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

All services mandated by the State of Florida for certification will continue to be provided, including counseling, 24 hour hotline, emergency shelter, case management, information, and referral, assessment of children, community education, and professional training.  While in shelter, victims are provided with food, clothing and personal supplies as well as safety planning and education about domestic violence.  These services are designed to interrupt the cycle of violence by enhancing the safety and self-sufficiency of victims of domestic violence.  Emergency shelter is particularly critical as separating from the perpetrator of violence escalates the risk of homicide.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

100% of adults and children in shelter will be provided shelter, safe from harm.  90% of families in shelter 72 hours or more will have a plan for family safety and security when they leave shelter.  80% of clients who receive center services and respond to a customer satisfaction instrument will report having overall satisfaction with the services they received.
