Project Description:
This proposal is to develop the infrastructure needed to implement a state-wide post wind storm damage mitigation initiative. This include identifying, recruiting, training and coordinating locally licensed and insured general and roofing contractors who will go into affected neighborhoods during the brief "dry out" window immediately following a severe wind storm and cover the damaged roofs of single-family homes with plastic sheeting. The sheeting should reduce the potential for subsequent water damage to the interior of homes from ensuing rains. The project also include recruiting, training and coordinating quality control inspectors who will ensure the plastic sheeting is property installed.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
By convering the roofs of damaged, but salvageable homes with plastic sheeting, the potential for water damage from subsequent rains is reduced. The cost to insurance companies and to the families will also be reduced through minimizing further damage to the residence. Protecting the roofs of these homes will also make it more likely families will be able to remain in their homes while awaiting long-term repairs to be made, thus reducing the demand for emergency shelter.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
There is a targeted number of contractors to be recruited and a specified number of volunteers to serve as quality controllers.
