This program will be a collaboration of four organizations:  Boley Centers for Behavioral Health Care; Directions for Mental Health, Inc.; Personal Enrichment for Mental Health Services; and Suncoast Center for Community Mental Health, Inc.  The Focused Outreach and Intervention Program is designed to engage individuals with mental illness who do not, or can not , access needed outpatient treatment for a variety of reasons.  These individuals with mental illness who do not, or can not access needed outpatient treatment for a variety of reasons.  These individuals periodically appear in jail, or at hospital emergency rooms, or in other social service systems because they are not getting the treatment they need.  Outreach therapy will be combined with access to psychiatrists, ARNP's and psychotropic medications.  Emergency housing and supports to maintain permanent housing will supplement the clinical services.  Services will include assessment ;triage/urgent care; care coordination; counseling; psychiatric care; psychotropic medications (including the newer, more effective medications); emergency housing; long-term housing support; and referral to other services as needed and desired.

Reduced recidivism; decreased jail/detention admissions; and emergency room visits related to mental health illness and substance abuse; decreased waiting time for court ordered  treatment and placement; decreased law enforcement transportation and processing time for mentally ill and substance abuse defendants.  Among the benefits, the community based services will help meet the governor's stated priorities including reducing the higher costs to taxpayers which result when these services are not provided.
