Project Description:

Coordinate out of area medical trips for transportation.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Transportation services/cost savings by sharing transportation costs.  Example of cost saving trip:  6/4/99 trip to Gainesville-6 counties-13 riders-556 miles x $1.35 per vehicle mile =$750.60.  Total Cost of trip by single county $2,463.90, service development trip cost 750.60 savings 1,713.30.  Savings from April 1997 - August 1999:  Miles saved 81,390, funds saved 85,460, trips provided 3,259.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Estimated several Community Transportation Coordinators' (CTCs) vehicles(s) and driver(s) being at the same location at the same time; increased productivity of CTC's vehicles and drivers by not sending a vehicle for long distance medical trip for the day with just one or two passengers; allowed additional trips to be provided within one county while having a customer needing long distance medical transportation service transported by a partnering CTC; reduced costs through shared mileage technique has resulted in considerable cost savings to funding sources-best illustrated by the fact that a trip to Gainesville, when accomplished through the Service Development Project, incurs 1/4 to 1/3 the mileage that would be incurred if the CTC was performing trip with just one passenger; facilitated increased efficiently with appointment schedulers which has required customers to become partner of the coordination equation by scheduling their appointments in concert with the availability of transportation services; proved through documented success stories that the Service Development Project has proven that it is a sound, much needed and feasible concept for the delivery/accomplishment of inter-county transportation; lessened inconvenience of customers being transferred between systems through astute coordination efforts; included CTCs, funding sources and other interested parties to ensure effective communications between all participants was continually effective; educated customers by developing user's guide to explain trip as group trip and the necessity to bring items for health and comfort; coordinated with thirteen counties:  Holmes, Walton, Washington, Jackson, Calhoun, Liberty, Gulf, Okaloosa, Bay, Madison, Taylor, Jefferson, Gadsden; demonstrated that transportation service can be cooperatively prodided between many counties as easily as within a single county.
