Project Description:

The funds are being requested for various programs which serve primarily Hispanic State clients in the areas bounded by the Bay on the East, the County line on the West, the Dolphin Expressway on the North, and Miller Drive on the South. Monolingual substance abusers from the entire Miami County are served. One-time capital funds are being requested for the following purpose: (a) $30,000 for an early warning fire alarm system for a 12,000 square foot facility; Fire department's requirements.  Facility provides mental health and substance abuse services to children and adults which are State clients. (b) $20,000to build a sidewalk along the wear boundary of the above property. Being required by the City of Miami as an item for bringing the property to code. This was a condition for being granted a certificate of occupancy, and we posted a bond to assure compliance, but we don't have funds to complete the project. (c) $25,000for rebuilding 4 bathrooms at a day treatment program for persons with dementia.  Work is needed because bathrooms are in very bad conditions and to bring them up to code. (d) $5,000 to replace a broken air conditioning system in our Drop-In Center building for the mentally ill. (e) to build and equip the vocational and recreational building of the Casa Nueva Vida Residential Treatment Facility for monolingual Hispanic substance abusers and persons with re-occurring chemcial dependency and mental illness. The present building was burned down by homeless individuals who camped out in it while the main building was being renovated. (f) $30,000 for a handicapped equiped van for transporting severely and persistently mentally ill clients who do not qualify for transportation benefits.
