Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The purpose of the Institute on Urban Policy and Commerce at Florida A&M University is to develop comprehensive urban strategies and partnerships to address critical social, economic, and physical issues in Florida's urban communities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

 

 

 

 

 

To develop comprehensive urban strategies and partnerships to address critical social, economic, and physical issues through applied research and training.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

(a) To research and recommend strategies concerning critical issues facing the underserved population in urban communities.

 

            (b) To establish regional urban centers to be located in the inner cities of St. Petersburg, Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Daytona Beach, and Pensacola.

 

            (c) To develop and maintain a data base relating to inner city areas.

 

            (d) To train a new generation of civic leaders and university students interested in approaches to community planning and design.

 

            (e) To assist with the planning, development, and capacity building of urban area nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

 

            (f) To support the community development efforts of inner city areas, neighborhood-based organizations, and municipal agencies.

 

            (g) To influence the equitable allocation and stewardships of federal, state, and local financial resources.
