Services Provided/Benefit to State: |
Direct services will include an enhancement of personnel (certified police officer/analysts), operations and equipment. The additional personnel will allow each of the 36 reporting agencies in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit to participate in the Auto Theft Task Force. Budget constraints presently preclude medium and smaller municipalities from assigning officers dedicated to auto theft. Increased operations include, in conjunction with U.S. Customs, Port of Palm Beach sweeps, under-cover operations targeting "chop shops" and aggressive enforcement of juvenile auto theft offenders. Additional equipment includes investigative equipment and vehicles. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The goal of the Auto Theft Task Force is to reduce auto-theft in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit by 5% - 10%. Auto thefts for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit historically are: 1997 = 8,770, 1998 = 10,053, 1999 (Jan - Jun) = 4,413. The measurable outcome would be to reduce the incidence of auto theft between 440 - 880. |
