Project Description:

The project is a pilot project with Broward Regional Health Planning Council devising strategies to reorganize and enhance an infrastructure designed to increase access for the uninsured and underinsured in Broward County. The strategies could be applied to the other 66 counties in the State of Florida.  A step-by-step guide will be developed to share with other counties as they also seek to define system efficiencies that will result in optimal use of the existing health care system by currently uninsured and underinsured populations.  Broward is an appropriate county to initiate this project since it is the second largest most populous county in Florida and the county with a high rate of population growth.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Development of a strategic plan, tested in Broward County, that can help counties provide greater access to healthcare for the uninsured and underinsured.  System efficiencies will be defined so that optimal use of the existing healthcare system in the State of Florida can be made by the currently uninsured and underinsured populations.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Increased access to care for uninsured and underinsured populations in Broward County by providing needed services.

Increase efficiencies in healthcare utilization.
