Services Provided/Benefit to State: |

Florida strawberry research develops varieties well adapted to local conditions. It develops best management practices to maximize production while minimizing the impact upon resources and the environment. The socio-economic benifits of Florida based strawberry research are legend, in terms of income generated, jobs developed, and community infused prosperity. This research will help ensure that Florida maintains and increases its market share in the face of research efforts in other strawberry producing states designed to develop new variaties that will harvest in a more competative timeframe. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
According to independent research, an acre of strawberries has an impact of $4.8 million over 50 years. For every 208 acres of increased acerage, the citizens of Florida can anticipate a $1 billion positive impact. Due largely to precious Florida research, strawberry acerage has increased almost 1000 acres in the last decade. The annual value to the state has almost doubled. |
