Project Description:
Increase the $43 allowance by $11 given each month to recipients of the OSS program residing in an ALF or AFCH. This amount is intended to cover items of personal needs not provided by the facility such as personal hypiene items, clothing, haircuts, dental care services, medication, and medical supplies not covered by Medicaid and simple non-essential items such as magazines, writing paper or books. This allowance has not been increased since 1988.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
This is a quality of life issue for the very indigent elderly and mentally disabled. The ability of an OSS recipient to buy a book or a candy bar can foster independence and respect within the recipient.

Ensures quality of life for the state's most indigent population.
