The project funds six, university based organizations that provide direct assistance, technical assistance, consultation, and training to individuals with autism and related disabilities, their families, and professionals who provide educational and support services to individuals with autism and related disabilities. |

|
CARD provides direct assistance, technical assistance, consultation, awareness activities, and training within every county of Florida.Technical assistance was provided to approximately 13,824 professionals and direct and specialized assistance to 4,300 individuals with autism and related disabilities in 1999. The requested continued funding will allow CARD to achieve its potential benefits for individuals, families and professionals by assuring access to all eligible Floridians in 2000-2001. It would allow working more closely with schools and other agencies to enhance their capacity for providing appropriate educational and habiliatative services. |

CARD helps reduce the long-term support costs for the autistic individuals which it serves and that number is estimated to be well over 4,500 in 2000. |
