Project Description:

To construct an Infant-Toddler Cottage (Cottage)as part of the Family Center at NSU.  The Cottage will accomodate fifty infants and toddlers including babies with special needs as well as typically developing children.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Care for at-risk infants and toddlers will be provided with emphasis on accomodating their special needs.  The Cottage will also serve as a demonstration and training site for professionals, paraprofessionals and students working in the early education field.  Parents can also be advised how to deal with the needs of their children.  The State benefits in having a quality training program so that children are more able to achieve in school.  Also, by working with families, there should be less problems with these children in future years.  The research done at the Cottage will produce a Train the Trainer Course Outline for dissemination to professionals.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

An increase in the quality of infant/toddler programs throughout the state, as well as a decrease in the need for special programs for those developmentally at-risk children who have gone through the Cottage experience.
