Project Description:
Create better educational opportunities for small and rural school districts throughout Florida. Funds also will be used to enable the existing PAEC Instructional Television System to link instructional broadcasting facilities with presently unreached schools statewide. Using the latest technologies, in partnership with other regional service providers, small and rural school districts throughout Florida will have access to anytime, anyplace staff development. This distance learning appropriation will be used to help meet the increased training and instructional needs of the educators in the small and rural schools of Florida while ensuring performance based professional growth in the districts. We will continue to build on already existing collaboration with the Florida High School, Florida's any time, any place high School. This appropriation will also be used to expand the successful distance learning staff development model known as Tuesday Teacher Training. During the previous two school years PAEC provided staff development activities to over 4000 school teachers in the Panhandle via the Tuesday Teacher Training model. Utilizing ITFS, satellite broadcasts (C-band and K-band), State of Florida digital satellite transponders and video streaming on the Internet, PAEC was able to effectively enhance the knowledge base of educators across the Panhandle. By funding the PAEC request, Florida can be a leader in raising student achievement through teaching technology literacy and increasing teacher competencies by providing world class staff development. With this appropriation, PAEC, with over 30 years of staff development experiences, would have the capability to support a statewide system for in-service professional development that provides a wide range of targeted in-service training to teachers and administrators. This professional staff development will be designed to upgrade skills and knowledge needed to reach world class standards for the small and rural school districts in Florida. The Panhandle Area Educational Consortium, with much of the needed equipment already in place and demonstrated capacity to provide effective training, can deliver the staff development academy that will greatly impact the present school staff development academy law for the small and rural school districts of Florida.
