Project Description:
Ybor Senior Center, a 15,000 square foot facility which will serve 200 senior citizens 60 years and older in the central city area of Hillsborough County in a day care setting. This will be a multi-year project. The total cost figure is for the first year only.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Adult day care costs range from $12,906-$20,592 annually compared to nursing home costs of $32,040-$49,840 annually. This cost effective program keeps these frail elders from becoming Medicaid clients and saves the state $11,448-$36,934 per client per year.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
This facility would serve 200 senior citizens over 60 who are low income, largely minority, socially/economically needy, as well as physically/mentally disabled in the central city. In addition to social, health and recreational activities, this site will offer adult health care services for Alzheimer's and other dementia specific needs and community based respite care. The services provided in this setting enable families to continue employment, while providing a home for these frail elders who would otherwise become residents of nursing homes whose fees would be paid for by the state. This constitutes an avoided cost to the state of $11,448-$36,934 per client, per year, for each of 200 clients if this center is constructed.
