Project Description:

Phase I: Construction necessary to provide structural controls and plantings to re-hydrate 100 acres of existing pasture to a viable wetland system. The park is also designed with high flow diversion culverts  to provide additional flood plain storage to current County flood plagued area. Board walks and paths will provide display boards on the wetland habitat. This will provide opportunities for environmental education in an informal park setting.

Phases II-IV: Includes the design, permitting and construction of a system to divert stormwater from the Eastside Canal into the park site for water quality treatment. The Eastside Canal contributing area is the older residential and commercial areas of Plant City which currently has little or no treatment.  The Eastside Canal discharges to the Hillsborough River which would improve the quality of discharge from one of the Hillsborough River's developed tributaries.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

Phase I: Restoration of 100 acres of wetland to provide water quality treatment and enhanced habitat fr wading birds and other wetland species.  The restoration and developmet of the 400-acre park as a natural system meets the States open space goals. Provisions of significant flood plain storage will lessen area flooding and reduce losses/claims due to flooding.

Phases II-IV: Provision of water quality treatment for the Eastside Canal prior to its discharge to the Hillsborough River will improve water quality to a designated OFW.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Phase I: Increased water quality after the construction of 100 acres of wetland for the provision of water quality treatment for the 700-acre contributing basin. Increased retention capacity for the provision for high water overflow from the canal which provides at least 300 acre feet of flood plain storage.

Phases II-IV: This water quality treatment will improve the stormwater discharge from the City's developed residential and comercial areas which currently has little to no treatment.
