Project Description: |
This request is to ensure continued support for two major teaching affiliate hospitals of the UF College of Medicine, Shands @UF in Gainesville and Shands Jacksonville. This $10million request is in recognition of the $100million uncompensated care provided to indigent Florida citizens by Shands and Shands Jacksonville. Growth in indigent care, capped with continue reductions in Federal Medicare support for graduate medical education, undermines the ability to maintain the State's medical residency training programs. These programs are critical elements of the statewide health care safety net; and the best source of physicians who will choose to practice in Florida. This $10million request will be shared between Shands at UF in Gainesville and Shands-Jacksonville |
