Project Description:
The Haitian American Association Against Cancer, Inc. (HAAAC) is a grass-roots, not-for-profit community-based organization whose mission is to provide outreaches and education programs for prevention and early detection of cancer to the public and in the Haitian-American community.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
By providing outreaches and education progams for prevention and early detection of cancer to the public, particularly, Haitians and Haitian-Americans who are uninsured and/or not being served, the medical cost to these indigents will be greatly reduced. Prevention is usually the best medicine. Thus, the State of Florida will benefit greatly with this concept or prevention instead of having to pick up the hospital tabs for these uninsured/underserved indigent individuals.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The dissemination of cancer information to the common mass, be it in their native tongue, Creole, to dispel myths and taboos regarding this issue will alleviate unnecessary sufferings in many low income families. HAAAC will structure a statistical system to monitor and document its cases relating to the effectiveness of its services.
