Project Description:

The Pasco Adolescent Intervention Center opened in November 1999 and is located in New Port Richey.  The Pasco Adolescent Intervention Center serves adolescents between 10 and 17 years old and their families.  The program specifically targets adolescents between 10 and 15 years old.  Juveniles should be referred for services if they are at risk to use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs or are currently using substances; or exhibit behavioral mental health problems in any psychosocial domain(school, home, employment, peers, etc.)  Adolescents who need services can be referred to the Pasco Adolescent Intervention Center by their parents, school officials, law enforcement, other community agencies and themselves.  A unique feature of the program is its Mobile Counseling Unit that provides services in East Pasco at various locations, including schools, churches and community organizations.

Services offerd by the Mobile Counseling Unit:  Assessments and referrals, Urinalysis, Groups, Individual Counseling, Family Therapy, Educational Groups-Adolescents and parents.

The PAIC also uses a modified Family Support Network(parent education and in-home visits) and MET/CBT 5 or 12 sessions (Motivationally Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therepay) model.  These models of treatment are grounded in the research literature and offer structured, curriculum-based interventions.  Additionally, the PAIC program utilizes nationally respected scales and instruments for baselines and follow-ups to assess outcomes of the interventions, prioritize services for pregnant and parenting teens at risk or involved in substance abuse and HIV and IV drug using adolescents and families.
