Project Description:
The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) is replacing equipment in the offices of the tax collectors which is used to register motor vehicles and vessels and apply for the issuance of titles for those vehicles. There are approximately 250 such offices and the equipment currently in most of those offices has been there since 1979-1980. That equipment is obsolete and will not accomodate a PC base operation. The replacement equipment is PC based and will reduce the time now required for those transactions. This request is in addition to the $3,000,000 in the Governor's Budget. The DHSMV requested $7,621,499 in its LBR.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
Certain information will be available more quickly to law enforcement and the State. This equipment will print/dispense decal automatically for license plate validation/renewals. Motor vehicle and vessel titles can be printed in the county so the customer may have it immediately. Manual inventory of decals will no longer be necessary and auditing of that inventory will be programmatic.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Processing time on registration renewals for both vessel and motor vehicles will be reduced. Reduction in waiting time for title to motor vehicle or vessel. Reduced auditting costs. There will also be a reduction in citations issued for late renewed tags in larger counties.
