Statewide Interest:

Specific problem areas can be indetified and targeted for preliminary water quality treatment via Best management Practices prior to release to local or regional waters Methodo;ogies and treatment trains can be tested for nutrient removal which will have transfer of information & application across the state for high level nutrient removal

Project Description:

The Village of Wellington's basin "B" discharges excess surface runoff into the Everglades Protection Area (EPA). This discharge is a tibutary of excess nutrients into the EPA as identified by historic water quality data. Recently a more intensive water quality sampling program was instituted to sample for total phosphorus (TP) at numerous targeted locations throughout basin "B" Preliminary identification of problem areas (Hot Spots) are complete.

The purpose of this Pilot Project is to select one or more of the "Hot Sports" and formulate a program utilizing BMP'S to reduce TP from relatively high concentrations to level more consistent with or lower than runoff fromother areas in South Florida tha tare introduced into StormwaterTreatment Areas (STA). Once the site(s) is (are) selected an appropriate BMP program cna be selected to achieve the desired results. A two yr duration is expected. To achieve the desired nutrient reduction in the EPA not only a large reduction input into the area as proposed by the regional systems is needed, reductions in site specific, high loading, nutrients rich, problem areas need to be addressed

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Reduce nutrient loadinginto the local drainage system. T be measured & qualified. This reduction translate into a reduction of nutrients into the regional system. Itis anticipated BMP's will stay in place & can benifit far into the future. Sucessful BMP's can be utilized in other hot spots to further reduce nutrient loadings to the local & regional systems. The benifits are a necessary step to restore the Everglades
