Project Description:
This project is for 75 beds for the St Petersburg Bridge, Inc., a community-based therapeutic residential drug treatment program for DOC-referred offenders. The program is a staff controlled and monitored, peer driven environment which is six months in length. The typical offender is a substance abuser who has committed one or more drug-related, none-violent felonies. Offenders are referred to the non-secure program as part of sentencing by a judge or are inmates diverted to the program by probation and parole officers. The program challenges criminal thinking and destructive behavior patterns, educate clients about the effects of chemical dependenency and its underlying causes, teaches clients to identify situations that triggerr drug use, assist clients to develop relaps prevention plans and encourages sobriety through employment, education, AA/NA, church, etc.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
At least 80% of the DOC non-secure graduates will not return to prison.
