The North Corridor BRT promotes regionalism. This project links the fast-growing, major urban communities of Broward County and the neighborhoods of Northwest Miami-Dade County to the existing Metrorail system. The project promote intermodal transportation linkages with Metrorail, Metromover, Miami-Dade and Broward's bus system, as well as Tri-County Commuter Rail revitalization along this corridor and provide much needed transportation for local residents to other parts of the County. Studies show that transit projects of this nature spur economic development, improve property values, and revitalize urban areas - all factors that play a role in generating additional revenues for state and local governments. With a poverty rate of 31.2%, Miami-Dade County is the nation's fourth poorest urban area. The jobs, income and investmensts afforded by construction of the North Corridor BRT and the vastly improved transit system will result in closing the economic gap and improving the quality of life for Miami-Dade County residents.

Project Description:
The North Corridor project proposed 9.5 mile Bus Rapid transit (BRT) extension from the existing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Metrorail station, running north along N.W. 27th Avenue from N.W. 62 Street to the Miami-Dade/Broward County line at N.W. 215 Street.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Promoting regionalism and intermodalism, this project will link the fast-growing major urban communities of Broward County and the neighborhoods of Northwest Miami-Dade County to the existing Metrorail system inception. Although this information has yet to be finalized, preliminary figures estimate daily ridership to be from 4,210 to 5,320. Final ridership projections will be available early 2002.
