Project Description:

This is a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to saving and restoring Kerbo Elementary School.  Kerbo is Lafayette's one and only "all black" school created in the early 1900s.  Many of Lafayette Counties black leadership gained first education and cultural foundation through the teachings of those who labored at Kerbo Elementary.  Over the next five years this coalition will be concentrating on : community developmentin tutoring/educational needs, crisis intervention/center, juvenile crime prevention, recreation/teen center.  Kerbo is situated in the south end of Knight's Subdivision in the core of Lafayette's black community.  The coalition hopes to retain Kerbo as a memorial of their black heritage.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The coalition hopes to reach the youth of Lafayette County by providing the above services.  It is the intent to provide a facility for the youth and work with them and their families if needed to rebuild their lives.  In a small rural county such as Lafayette County these services are not always readily available.
