Project Description:

The Health Education and Outreach Program provides a comprehensive community-based strategy to address HIV/AIDS and substance abuse- the twin epidemics of that continue to be a pervasive threat to public health.  In keeping with the holistic approach for addressing the needs of the clients in the Center and surrounding community, the program has implemented a culturally appropriate health education and outreach program for high-risk persons with a specific priority on serving south St Petersburg.  The goal of the program will be to reduce the risk of becoming infected or, if infected, of transmitting the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), TB, Herpatitis and STDs.

The program operates from the Davis-Bradely Center and targets services to center clients and those high- risk persons who live in the surrounding south St Petersburg neighborhoods.  The program provides health education workshops and training activities, risk assetment, HIV testing, health counseling, street outreach, condom distrubution and referrals.  The program coodinates with local chuches, community and civic organizations, after-school youth programs and identified groups that serve the targeted high-risk groups.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
