Project Description:

Young at Art Children's Museum, in partnership with Broward Libraries and the Town of Davie, will establish the first Children's Literacy and Education Complex in Florida.  The multi-acre campus in south Broward will integrate a new children's library with the new 40,000 sq. foot Young at Art Children's Museum, whose collective effort will be the literacy, artistic and cultural education of children in south Florida.  State funds are being sought to assist with the planning and conceptualization of Young at Art's portion of the initiative, ensuring that the new facility, with strong support from local government and the community, meets the needs of children's reading and artistic literacy, early childhood development, and cultural tolerance, and ensures that Florida's Sunshine State Standards in the core concepts of reading, writing and math are integrated into the program curriculum for the benefit of students and educators from the region and state.  Being located just off of Interstate 595, the facility will be accessable and visible too residents from all across the county and beyond.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The new education complex will be the first in the state to integrate the proven educational impact of interactive learning in a children's museum with the learning environment of a children's library.  The new educational complex will focus on the three most essential forms of children's literacy-reading, arts, and multicultural education.

Through reading literacy that emphasises retention and comprehension, children from birth to age 8 will be better prepared for and achieve greater success in school.

Through arts literacy, children from birth to age 15 will learn to clearly and creatively communicate complex ideas, both verbally and non verbally.  Educators will be taught how to integrate the arts curriculuminto learning strategies that correlate to the key concepts of reading, writing, and math within Florida's Sunshine State Standards.

Through multi-cultural literacy, appreciation and tolerance of our State's melting pot society will be emphasised, leading to new methods for reducing violence and improving conflict resolution in our schools.

Accessibility to the Museum's comprehensive and interactive web site will enable parents, teachers and students to access information and learning materials for maximum statewide impact.
