Project Description:

The purpose of this project is to monitor changing beach conditions at three locations in south Broward County.  It will measure and provide a time history of the high and low water lines in hourly (or less) increments.  The data will be collected continually for the period of the project.  This will result in a quantifiable description of the changes in beach lines over that period as well as a video history of the beach conditions.  The project will be done in conjunction with a beach renourishment project and will be able to demonstrate how the beach changes over time as a result of the renourishment.

The project will use digital video cameras to photograph the beach.  The digital frames will be converted into quantifiable beach characteristics using image enhancement techniques.  The result will be a video as well as quantifiable definition of the beach for periods as short as one minute to yearly averages.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The project will result in a photographic as well as quantifiable description of changes to the high and low water lines for three locations in south Broward county.  This will be a time history (hourly intervals) of these changing conditions.
