Project Description:

The Food Recovery Program receives surplus food from the federal government and from local farmers, stores the produce, and ships it to various distribution points around the state in cooperation with local charitable organizations. The disabled, elderly, poor and working poor families are the recipients of the food.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

14 million pounds of food to be distributed at no charge to recipients statewide. Farm Share will use the $900,000 in Fiscal Year 2002-2003 to recover and distribute 5 million pounds of USDA/TEFAP entitlement commodities, to distribute as many bonus pounds of USDA/TEFAP commodities as is pracicial and available and to begin the project of creating a statewide network of distribution hubs that will enable us to reach more agencies at an exponential level of frequency and consistency throughout the State. As always, the food distributed will be made available free of chargeto agencies and recipients, and 100% accountability will be maintained.
