The Digital Divide Council, as established through legislation in 2001, and was based on the recognition by the Legislature that despite gains in the increased use of technology by society as a whole, a divide exists between those without adequate economic resources and access to obtain the needed training and education, and those that have resources.

Project Description:
The mission of the Digital Divide Council is to promote that all Floridians have reasonalbe opportunities to access and training needed to develop the knowledge and skills required to use information technology. This project request is two-fold. One, for $201,338, is to provide to the STO the administrative support as required in statute, and is in the agency's budget request. This includes staff support and travel costs for members of the council to participate in meetings. The second aspect of this request is for funding of the pilot programs as designated in the legislation that passed last Session. The Council is authorized and empowered to facilitate the design and implementaion of pilot programs that provide economic resources, training and access to at-risk members of our society that are without these critical tools. This request is for $125,000 for each of the six pilot projects.
