The Crisis Nursery Program has a documented history of significantly impacting child abuse and neglect in the communities where it has been implemented.  Because of this, Hibiscus Children's Center has been providing expertise and technical assistance in creating and replicating this nationally acclaimed model across the state, including Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Osceola, Duval, Lake, Leon, Escambia, and many other counties.  Hibiscus Children's Center was the founding member of the Florida Respite Coalition, a statewide organization educating communities and policymakers about the benefits of crisis care and respite services.  Hibiscus Children's Center has organized and co-sponsored numerous statewide conferences concerning respite and crisis intervention programs and services for families.

Project Description:

The Hibiscus Children's Center Crisis Nursery Program is a nationally lauded child abuse and neglect prevention program that promotes child safety.  It protects children and assists families at the initial point of crisis, where the risk for maltreatment is highest.  This very successful model is designed to keep children out of the child welfare system and promote family self sufficiency.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The Crisis Nursery Program is a nationally lauded program model that has significantly impacted child abuse and neglect.  The primary outcome for the program recipients is increased child safety, a higher degree of family functioning, children remaining out of the child welfare system, and the multitude of benefits derived from families staying together.  All these outcomes have bean measured in program monitoring by the District 15 Department of Children and Families, Martin County Children's Services Council, St. Lucie County Children Services Council, Okeechobee County Children Services Council, Indian River Children's Network, and the Martin County United way, since the inception of this program in 1994.  Copies are available for review.
