Project Description:

The Foundation for Dreams, Inc. is non-profit organization whose mission is to build and operate Dream Oaks Camp for special needs children.  This project will provide a day camp and residential sleep over camp program located in Eastern Manatee County for children with special needs.  It is designed to serve those children ages 7 to 16 who are chronically ill, mentally or physically handicapped.  Each week of the residential camp operations will serve children with a specific illness or disability.  All activities of the residential camp programs will be detailed and altered for the capabilities of each attending group.  The residential camp will initially operate over the summer months (June-August) and operate 5 days per week.  The residential camp will provide programs and concepts that will assist these children to better cope with their handicap or disease by bonding and blending with others and by building steps to a greater self-confidence and strengthening life skills.  This will be accomplished by offering specialized therapy programs such as aquatic therapy, art therapy, music therapy, animal therapy, humor therapy, recretational programs, bereavement counseling, equestrian therapy, nutrition counseling and by having a "good ol' fashion" camping fun. Each attending group of children of the residentail summer program will participate in events as appropriate to their illness or disabiity.  The residential camp will employ appropriately qualified staff to administer the specialized therapy programs and appropriate background investigation.  The Foundations for Dreams will see accreditation for the Dream Oaks Camp through the American Camping Association.
