| Project Description: | |||||||||
| Miami Children's Hospital is one of the largest Medicaid providers in the State, as a percentage of total net revenues. More than 50% of the hospital's revenues are allocated to Medicaid patients. We provide the highest amount of emergency room care for children in Florida, responding to almost 85,000 visits last year and a projected 85,000 this year. Even though the hospital is a cost-effective provider, the difference between Medicaid payments and the cost of providing care is estimated at $10.4 million for fiscal year 2001 in addition to over $6 million in unreimbursable charity care. The delivery of Medicaid service and charity care resulted in a loss to the hospital of over $16 million in the year 2001. | |||||||||
