| Project Description: | |||||||||
| This project is a capital outlay request for the development of a five acre neighborhood park in a substantially underserved urban area. This parcel will be acquired and partially developed through a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant in the amount of $200,000 and a Broward County Bond Challenge Grant of $500,000. The Broward County Comprehensive Land Use Plan establishes a minimum of three acres of park and/or open space per one thousand residents to meet quality of life concerns. The City of Lauderdale Lakes, which has adopted this standard, needs a minimum of ninety-five acres. Even after acquisition of this five acre parcel, the City is deficient by 66 acres or sixty-nine per cent. This project supports the goals of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), which includes, "provide more opportunities for a wide range of resource-based outdoor recreation in both urban and rural areas, with a range of facility development from the primitive to the fully developed". | |||||||||
