320.0863  Street rods; license plates.--A "street rod" is a modified motor vehicle manufactured before 1949 which is maintained primarily for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest but not for general transportation. For the purposes of this section, the word "modified" means that an engine, a driveline, a suspension, brakes, or other component parts manufactured after 1949 are installed. The owner of any such motor vehicle, upon application to the department and upon payment of the license tax prescribed by s. 320.08(2)(a) and a processing fee of $3, shall be issued a special license plate for such motor vehicle. The registration number and special license plates assigned to such vehicles shall run in a separate series, commencing with "Street Rod 1," and the plates shall be of a distinguishing color. A motor vehicle bearing a "street rod" license plate is required to meet state motor vehicle safety requirements.
