Committee Administrative Assistant (Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development

General Summary

This position, located in Tallahassee, is for an Administrative Assistant in the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development. This nonpartisan position involves independent work on administrative tasks, assignments, and a variety of administrative matters. Work will include use of various typical and specialized computer programs, performance of both routine and non-routine tasks following standardized practices, and some tasks and assignments that are complex in nature and very broad in objective, requiring coordination with the supervisor on methods of performance. At times, work may be required to be performed under pressure to meet deadlines or other time constraints.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Performs general office management duties.
  • Responsible for using various computer programs/systems to prepare meeting notices, detailed agendas, bill analyses and/or budget notes, and other meeting materials, recording, and reporting out meetings. 
  • Edits and proofs bill analyses and other documents.
  • Operates a computer to perform spreadsheet applications, word processing, and/or database management.
  • Assists supervisor in handling daily administrative duties and acts in matters where authority has been delegated.
  • Performs tasks to relieve supervisor from routine assignments.
  • Processes a variety of correspondence, investigates subject matter, and prepares replies.
  • Performs special assignments and report preparation. 
  • Performs research projects as directed by the supervisor and generally keeps abreast of issues under the jurisdiction of the committee.
  • Assists in preparing for full committee and/or subcommittee meetings and workshops.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Knowledge of typical computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the demands of Legislators, their staff, and the public.
  • Ability to be resourceful and perform under pressure on multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and exercise discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain records.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to produce quality work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and administrative experience.
 
Administrative or staff experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Commensurate with experience.
