General Summary

This is independent work coordinating the marketing efforts at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum. The Marketing Coordinator works with media contacts, raises awareness about Museum programs and initiatives via social media and other outlets, and provides general assistance for all External Relations initiatives.  The position reports to the Director of External Relations.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Maintains Museum’s social media accounts
  • Researches and recommends changes to Museum’s social media strategies
  • Builds relationships and maintains communication with members of the media
  • Prepares press releases and makes follow-up phone calls
  • Prepares articles for The Chronicle and other publications
  • Creates and edits marketing content
  • Posts information about Museum programs on all website calendars and other event listings
  • Prepares e-blasts using Constant Contact
  • Manages online ticketing and reservations via Eventbrite
  • Researches the Museum’s photo archives for images and supplements by taking photos
  • Uses programs of the Adobe Creative Suite to edit images and create/edit PR materials
  • Conducts surveys to identify reach of marketing channels and success of strategies
  • Represents Museum at media events
  • Assists with media buys
  • Assist with archiving all media stories and paid advertisements
  • Assists with planning, set-up, and execution of Historic Capitol special events
  • Coordinates updates to Museum’s website
  • Performs other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of multiple social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Hootsuite.

Knowledge of Constant Contact e-mail marketing software or other similar software.

Knowledge of the Eventbrite ticketing system or other similar systems.

Knowledge of Constituent Management Systems.

Ability to learn new technology and explain its functionality to other staff and volunteers.

Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.

Ability to pay attention to detail and review work for accuracy and quality of content.

Ability to work cooperatively as a team member.

Ability to be organized and self-directed.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain records.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the  media, board members, donors, volunteers, schools and teachers, supervisor, co-workers, other agencies, and the public.

Tools and Equipment Used:   

Computer including word processing and internet; Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, digital camera; general office equipment.

Dress Code:   

Business Casual or Business Professional attire required.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, American history, public history, or related field and one year of professional experience in marketing, communications, American history, public history, museums, non-profits, or related field.

Experience in the above fields can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the requirements listed above.

Salary

The hourly rate of pay is $12.72 per hour, up to 30 hours per week.
