The Public School Funding Task Force was created by the Legislature
(Laws of Florida: 2000-181) to examine the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) and to recommend
alternatives to the Speaker of the House, President of the Senate and
Governor of Florida. This legislation also provides that the FEFP, as it
presently is conceived, must be replaced by 2004.
The charge to this Task Force is to craft a replacement for the FEFP and
to present drafts to the Legislature and Governor's Office. After the
draft recommendations have been examined by the Governor, Speaker, and
President, the Task Force is to hold public hearings in each of the five
educational districts, gathering public suggestions and concerns
regarding the proposed alternatives to the Florida Education Finance
Program.
The final step for this Task Force will be to propose legislation that
will supplant the present FEFP.
